The main focus for this week was beginning to present my work in preparation for the hand in as well as competitions like the Rookies. Before I began this however, I replaced some of my old exterior pillars which had not been improved, to the current pillars which are made with individually modelled bricks.

I then used the light complexity view in Unreal Engine to go through all my rooms and try and optimise the performance as much as possible by removing overlapping and unnecessary lights.
To begin my presentation, I first created a plan for a cinematic which would utilise slow camera movements through the different parts of the environment to showcase them all. To get a movie/cinematic feel to the video, I use 21:9, 4k resolution cameras with 55mm focal length.
To add some more interest to the cinematic, I added slow moving coloured particles in the shrine room.

I used the sequencer in my Unreal Engine scene to switch between the cameras and used Premier Pro to stitch together the frames to create the finished video.
After creating a first draft, I received feedback that my fire particles would benefit from more variation as they felt quite stylised. I refined them by making sure they are switching between fire alphas and have more variation in size. I also saturated the colours more.

I then took all of my assets into Marmoset Toolbag and laid out my full asset sheet, and then several smaller asset sheets to focus in on different sections. I also began rendering turntables of my hero assets, as well as wireframes of the asset sheets.
I used Abe Leal's free portfolio course (Abe Leal 3D, 2026) to help with lighting and rendering advice.
